Call of duty classic review

Call of duty 1

Call of duty was released in 2003 under the development of Infinity Studios and Activision. The engine was the prototype Id Tech 3. In September 2004 the United Offensive add-on was released, adding several missions, new weapons and improved graphics.

Gameplay:

Gameplay consists of missions in which the player has to complete certain tasks in order to complete it. The tasks can be different, such as: take over a building, find enemy documents and maps, destroy artillery. Each mission is preceded by a briefing that briefly outlines the task and advances the plot, but if the mission is a direct continuation of the previous one, there will be no briefing. Also, before each mission the loading screen is a document, which is the hero’s personal diary, a military document or an order from the officers. Before the story starts, the player will be asked to choose the difficulty of the game. There are four difficulty levels: beginner, private, expert and veteran. On veteran difficulty, by the way, there are no first aid kits.

Plot:

The plot is based on World War II, namely the confrontation of the armies of the USSR and the Allies with the armies of the 3rd Reich.

The game is divided into three companies: US, UK, USSR.

USA:

The storyline of the US company development is the Normandy landings, except for the first mission, which is a training mission. A total of 9 missions await the player, 6 of which take place in Normandy, 2 in Austria, with the main mission being the liberation of British officers and the last on the French-Belgian border with the clearance of bunkers.

Call of duty review of the cult shooter classic

UK:

A key part of the English campaign is the operation on the Eder Dam. Seven missions await the gamer: 2 of them take place in France, during which the player must defend the bridge; 3 in Germany at the dam, which must be blown up; 1 on a German aircraft carrier, which is the only stealth mission in the game; and the chain ends again with Germany destroying the 3rd Reich’s last hope, represented by homing missiles.

USSR:

The final link is the Red Army storyline. The main focus was on the Battle of Stalingrad and the liberation of Poland. There are the most missions here, 10 of them, 5 of them about the great battles at Stalingrad, 4 about the liberation of Poland from occupation, and the final mission is to capture the Reichstag and load the legendary victory banner on the roof.

Protagonists:

  1. Joey Martin: Private, chief aide to Captain Foley and Sgt Moody
  2. Jack Evans: Sergeant, later transferred to the subversion squad, along with Price and Waters.
  3. Lyosha Voronin: An ordinary Red Army soldier, having worked his way up from private to lieutenant.

Conclusion

The game was very successful and 2 years later a sequel was released. The score on Metacritic was 9.1, which is excellent.
