Daedalic announces a new Gollum game

Fichtelman Karsten, president of Daedalic talked to reporters about the new game in the famous Lord of the Rings series, which is scheduled to be released in 2021. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s Middle-earth storyline is based on the story of Gollum.

Yes, it is Gollum who will be the central character in the game. Fichtelman revealed to reporters that the action will unfold before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The Daedalic director explained, “We all know the book story [Gollum], but the most important thing we’ll see in the game is everything that happens to him before he appears in the book. We’ll tell the story before the moment he appears in the books.”

Daedalic’s management officially owns all the rights to use the Lord of the Rings books, so the writers want to offer their own story of the character, which is different from Peter Jackson’s adaptation. “Gollum’s play space is a unique adaptation of Tolkien’s works of fiction.” According to Fichtelman – “The game will be a great experience. The concept of a computer game offers users a new perspective, every decision the programmers make makes sense for a character like Gollum. We will show a different story of the character, one that no one knows yet.”

According to the developers’ concept, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game will have two branches of events, based on the split personality of Smeagorla. Thus, the gamer will be addressed by two voices, and depending on the gamer’s decision, the scenario will evolve in a certain way. The developers also revealed a bit more details about the genre direction of Gollum, with a second emphasis on stealth, which is unsurprisingly pleasing to fans of this gaming genre.

The game’s artwork will also differ from the usual Lord of the Rings atmosphere.

Few people would want to play Gollum for 20 hours because of the image of an embittered and disgusting creature depicted in the film, admits Matthias Fischer, the game’s art director. The biggest challenge was to make him a character you could sympathise with, to make him a little more likeable and trustworthy, even despite the fact that he could eat children.

As of yet, the company hasn’t released any screenshots or teasers for the game. But that only indicates that the project is in the early stages of development. Even the software platforms on which the game will be based are not yet known.
